Laurie Farmer

Laurie Farmer | MBA MSc, BSc (Hons.)


Laurie is a maritime and HR generalist whose experience includes time at sea and twenty years in senior positions as HR Director and Crewing Director in blue-chip public and private companies in the maritime sector. Having worked in the UK, Netherlands, Hong Kong and the Americas and with an in-depth knowledge of the maritime industry and operations in the major crew supply countries, Laurie brings a global perspective to marine business.

His HR experience includes: Purchase and Acquisition, company integration and consolidation, redundancy programmes, TUPE, talent and graduate development programmes, leadership programmes, employee engagement, development of transactional systems, learning systems, reward and benefits, membership of remuneration and risk committees and appointments and terminations at senior level.

Laurie has represented employers on the Merchant Navy Training Board, and has negotiated at national and international level with various trades unions, the ITWF and other employee representative bodies. He has experience as Trustee to a major pension fund.

Now working as an independent management consultant Laurie is currently working to establish and develop a new maritime college on the River Humber.
