Regarded by many as the Oil capital of Europe, Aberdeen continues to be a busy hub for what is now more appropriately regarded as the more encompassing energy sector with the increasing move towards renewables.
Whilst the industry may be changing the knowledge and expertise developed over the years by the inhabitants of Aberdeen and the North Sea sector is being adapted towards other forms of energy.
The harbour itself is expanding to cater for the much larger vessels now being utilised in the energy sector. It is also being touted as a destination for cruise ships and large yachts once the Nigg Bay transformation is complete because Aberdeen is the gateway to Royal Deeside and the thousands of square miles of open spaces inland of the city.
The vessels being used in the energy sector are now becoming more technologically advanced and require a new breed of seafarer to not only cope with the hostile operating environment of the North Sea but also the technology at their fingertips.
